Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept my insurance?

I am currently an out-of-network provider and am unable to accept any insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. You will be required to pay for each session in full at the time of service. In order to simplify the reimbursement process, I will provide you with all of the required paperwork, including invoices, receipts and diagnosis codes.

If you plan on seeking reimbursement I recommend that you call your insurance provider to inquire about their policy on out-of-network behavioral healthcare. Relevant information that you will need includes the amount of your deductible, the % of behavioral health services they will reimburse for out-of-network providers, and if there are limits of the number of sessions per year.

What are your fees?

Rates are $230 for a 50-minute session. Payment is due in full at the time of each service and can be paid via our secure online system.

You may be able to get partial reimbursement through your insurance company (see above for more information regarding insurance).

How many sessions will I need?

Treatment duration varies depending on your presenting concerns, treatment goals, regularity of sessions and degree of participation in treatment (for example, practicing skills between sessions).

Often, therapy duration is short-term (8-20 sessions). Occasionally, such as when a concern has been present for a very long time, a longer course of treatment may be needed. Regardless of the specific duration, treatment will always be goal directed and informed by the treatment plan. We will regularly re-evaluate the treatment plan based on your progress towards treatment goals and revise as needed to best meet your treatment needs.

I understand that therapy is a significant commitment of your valuable resources (time, energy, finances). Thus, my goal is for you to meet your treatment goals as quickly and effectively as possible, and for symptom changes to be longstanding. I will help you to build the skills necessary to maintain treatment benefits over the long-term and ultimately learn to be your own therapist!

How long are the sessions?

All sessions are scheduled as 50 minute appointments.

How frequent are sessions?

Sessions typically occur on a weekly basis.

Particularly in the early stages of treatment, weekly sessions are beneficial as they allow us to work consistently on overcoming challenges and skill building. Less frequent or irregularly scheduled sessions make adhering to a treatment plan and skill acquisition more difficult, as there are fewer opportunities to receive support and engage in collaborative problem-solving.

As you experience symptom improvement and make progress towards your treatment goals we may discuss gradually decreasing the frequency of sessions to facilitate independent skill mastery. As you reach the end of treatment we may discuss the option of treatment ‘maintenance’ or ‘booster’ sessions, where sessions occur semi-monthly or as needed to bolster skills and cope with new stressors.

I will do my best to work with you to accommodate your schedule. More or less frequent sessions can be arranged when appropriate, based on treatment needs and availability.

What is your availability?

Appointments are offered on weekdays. I will do my best to find a time that fits your schedule.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment you must provide at least 24 hours notice prior to the scheduled appointment. This allows me to offer your appointment time to another patient. If you do not provide at least 24 hours notice you will be responsible for the full session fee.

Is my information kept private/confidential?

Yes, maintaining your privacy is of the utmost importance. Unless you provide me with written and verbal permission to speak to others about your treatment (e.g. your other medical providers), your information will be kept private. My records are kept in a secure manner that complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

During our initial session I will review with you the specific legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, clinical psychologist are not licensed in NYS to prescribe medication. I work collaboratively with prescribing providers, such as psychiatrists and GPs, for patients who may benefit from a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
